Banana Republic Headless CMS System

Leading the Banana Republic team into a full CMS authoring experience

I was brought in to Banana Republic as the UX lead for a technology modernization and enablement initiative. Since parent brand Gap, Inc. still relied heavily on the team to manually update their web properties, no frameworks were put in place giving us the opportunity to build in a modern headless CMS system from the ground up. I worked in close collaboration with product and engineering to audit the existing website and map its components into atomic structures that ultimately determined the design system. This was meticulously mapped out in Figma tokens and variables then built into Storybook. Since our clients were also the designers who designed the web campaigns, I went a little above and beyond and created a Figma template system that was fully responsive within Figma, auto-populated their assets across all device mockups. This allowed the team to rapidly mock up campaigns for approval before building in the CMS. The template system was so successful, it became an initiative to develop this system for all the sibling brands (Old Navy, Athleta & Gap) under the Gap Inc. umbrella.
